Invest in your IT skills!
Investing in your IT skills can open up many doors for your career! With the world advancing rapidly, technology is becoming more and more important to organisations. Companies are now actively looking for people with technical skills who can help them keep up with the rapid changes.
Most established IT professionals have a good idea about where they want to go and which skills and /or qualifications they need to advance their career and give them the best possible skill set.
But what about if you’re just starting out in IT? If you already have some IT skills, investing further in them can open up great opportunities for you. You can start with basic courses in coding, programming and other technical skills, or more advanced courses such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The key is to focus on the specific IT job you want and have a look at the current Job Adverts for those positions and you’ll start to see the qualifications that come up time and time again. That’s where you should focus your efforts – either right now or as part of a longer term plan. You can’t just leap into doing a CCNP for instance. Start with an N+ and work your way towards it.
Start networking with people who are already doing the position you’d love to do. Send them a linked in invite with a quick note explaining your situation and that you’re looking to get better connected in your chosen field. What qualifications do they have on their profile? Can you benchmark yourself against them?
By investing in yourself, you can learn new skills and become more marketable. Plus, you can demonstrate your commitment to developing yourself professionally, which could help you stand out from other job applicants.
So if you’re looking to take your career to the next level, why not invest in your IT skills!
