A CV is your tool to get information about you across to potential employers and it’s important that the right information is present. However, one of the most important details to consider is keeping your personal details private. CV Security is essential
Your full address and any other personal details should never be included on your CV. Potential employers don’t need to know exactly where you live, and sharing this information can compromise your safety. Save it for when you’ve progressed further down the process.
That is true of passport numbers, NI numbers and visa details. Believe it or not, CVs are still coming in with these details on and it’s so dangerous with identity theft rife.
What should you include instead?
You should definitely include the town/city you live in, or even just the first part of your postcode. This will still provide employers with enough information to assess your location in relation to the job. But also, most of the filtering carried out on the job boards is done on location so you don’t want to slip through the net by having no location. If you’re looking only for remote work, make that clear, and if you’re open to relocation, make that clear too. It really puts people off having to phone candidates just to find out that they live no-where near the right location.
By keeping your personal information to a minimum, you can be sure that your CV security is as safe as possible.
