A Little extra something to tip the balance.
Something which is fabulous to have up your sleeve is a couple of good examples of your key achievements. The big successes you’ve had; the standout moments. The time when you nailed something and “scored the winner” as it were. Maybe a solved a nightmare technical problem for a big client or went the extra mile to fix a software bug.
If nothing comes to mind, you need to dig deep. Employers want to hire someone that can add value, make a difference, stand out and so one or two tails off success can be a great tool for your interview.
Likely Interview Questions:
Answer – Well I work as a developer for a software company where I am responsible for blah, blah (You get the idea). During this time I have been able to ** Example of Key Achievement ** come up with a real solution to one of our clients issues by developing code in C# that overcomes the blah blah blah. You get the idea.
OR
I am a passionate Support Engineer and can offer clients strong 2nd line support across most MS platforms etc etc. ** Example of key achievement ** I have recently help overcome some major technical issues for one of our key clients by blah blah. I’m passionate about what I do and would be looking to help your customers in the same way.
It’s important to have specific examples, not just generic success for this. So feel free to name drop, be concise but thorough in what you did and how it worked out.
My Example
Now my line of work is different to yours as I’m a recruiter, but here’s my example.
Earlier this year I got into one of the largest IT Support Company in the UK by filling 6 of their difficult positions in Bristol and South Wales, which they were previously struggling with. We were then placed on their preferred supplier list where we have continued to fill all positions given. They now use us exclusively for all support vacancies.
It may sound like you’re blowing your own trumpet, as does mine. But an interview is your time to shine – to be proud of your achievements and these are the people that need to know about them!
Can you imagine a future employer’s natural reaction to this when they are looking to hire someone that can bring results. You’re key achievement might just tip the balance in your favour. If I can win this level of business for my current company, then I can do the same for you. Or if I can fix complex coding for a problem customer and resolve difficult ongoing issues, then I can do the same for your customers.
It’s well worth spending some time to come up with one or two examples and go and impress them with how good you are!
